Day 3!

Today we are reading Psalm 2, Genesis 3, 1 Chronicles 3, Luke 1:57-80

Psalm 2: Reading this just made me think of the 2 kingdoms that battle. The kingdom of light vs the kingdom of darkness. This states how foolish it is for those to go against the kingdom of light because Jesus has already won it all. Its over. Verse 11 and 12 for me are the highlights. "Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling." "Kiss the Son (bring homage to), lest He be angry, and You perish in the way, When His wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all those who put their trust in him" Submit yourself to the Lord. Be in awe of Him. The Lord is precious to me. I love Him. I won't let the foolish counsel of the wicked lead me astray because I know when you go down that road you end up destroying yourself. I will put my trust in the Lord for He loves me.

Genesis 3: So here I want to point out temptation and how Satan will try to trip Christians up. The first thing you see is that he questions God. Did God really say that? Does he really mean that? How do you know for sure? Then he responds with a twisted truth while also arguing against the Lord. Yes they did become similar to God in the idea of that they will know the difference between right and wrong. Yet, in doing so they disobeyed and what they thought would happen didn't. When we are tempted it always looks so appealing. The longer you look at a temptation and not FLEE the more enticed by it you will be. You will twist it and make it look beneficial, cool, and fun. You start to forget the negatives about it or the idea of getting caught becomes less and less probable. What is so funny about this story is the second they are caught they try to blame each other. We totally do that all the time. We don't want to be responsible for our sin but that is a important part of repentance. What I love about this chapter is that the love of God is displayed so evidently. It appears like he is punishing his children by kicking them out of paradise but what he does is for their own benefit. The first thing he does is clothe them out of skin. That is the first time you will see that something had to die to cover their sin. God loved them so that he allowed them to not be able to live forever. Which gives them a chance for a further relationship without the hindrances of sin. God is so good!

! Chronicles 3: Here we see Davids family listed which continues the genealogy. I honestly do not have a whole lot yet for 1 Chronicles. If anyone has found anything particular about this chapter put a comment below.

Luke 1:57-80 Can I just say in verse 57-58, that I think we need to really rejoice more when we are blessed. When a tragedy happens people mourn with one another but I feel like when the good things happen we really need to take some time to celebrate. I got together with a few people recently to celebrate that a friend took their mcat test. We don't even know the outcome of it but we celebrated because he was studying for so long and it was finally completed! I love how in verse 64 his tongue is loosed and the first thing he does is praise God. Wow. That is so awesome because the people around him were a little freaked out because he most have been so excited. He also must have told them about what happened at the temple months before hand. Then being filled with the spirit he prophesies over his sons ministry and life. My favorite is verse 79 "To give light to those who sin in darkness and the shadow of death, To guide our feet into the way of peace." I love this. Then I like how it ends with John becoming STRONG in the Spirit. As Christians we need to grow strong in the spirit. I feel this is a good spot for a question. How do we grow stronger spiritually?

So today I see again the importance of following the Lord and being blessed from it. Its pretty black and white. I'm also thinking of the areas in which I am tempted on a more or less regular basis. I'm giving those areas to God and I am making it a point to avoid those completely or rendering it impossible to be in. Also I am going to start rejoicing more. Philippians 4:4 "Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!"

So we are doing this one a little late at night but that is OK, because that means we can fall asleep with the word still fresh in our minds. Today we are reading:

Psalms 1, Genesis 2, 1 Chronicles 2, Luke 1 26:56

Psalms 1: I read this and wrote a bunch and deleted everything because I thought it was obvious too lengthy. This chapter is just a summary of what happens to people who either follow the Lord or not. Those who do are blessed(happy, fruitful), those who don't perish. Do not go along with wordly advice (Ex. Having sex with your bf/gf is fun and its not a big deal). Be careful about who you hang out with the most because they will affect you. I know this first hand because I've done things I never thought I would do just because a friend thought it was ok. The people you love the most are most likely to change you and you will rub off on them. Do not take what God says on anything lightly. Do not scoff at it. Simple enough. The end result is those who are folowing the Lord are blessed, nourished, and happy. They are not driven back and forth through their lust and are lost/confused in life. In the end the ungodly perish.

Genesis 2: So good! So we see the introduction of the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. We see the first wedding although it isn't very obvious. I recently went to a wedding the other day and the pastor mentioned that Eve came from Adams rib which is the closest thing to his heart, and his heart belonged to God. It's interesting to see that it says it is not good for man to be alone. We are relational beings. We were created to be together. We build each other up and are most happy when we are with people. I love the end too. They were naked and not ashamed. It makes me think that because later they sin and are ashamed. Jesus died and conquered death and sin making us clean and blameless and now we can walk around without shame!

1 Chronicles 2: This continues the genealogy to David. I'd like to pint out verse 3 where it says, "Er the firstborn of Judah, was wicked in the sight of the Lord, so He killed him. I read this and kind of laughed considering it was such a quick thing to say. It does point back to psalms 1 where it says the ungodly/wicked will perish.

Luke 1:26-56 Verse 37 "For with God nothing will be impossible." That is a faith building verse right there. Mary is definitely a incredibly brave person. I know that she was actually very young at her age. To be pregnant before marriage should have made her fiance cancel the marriage and she could have been stoned to death. I loved that Elizabeth is filled with the holy spirit and her baby leaps in her at the sound of Mary's voice. Mary's prayer in the end is awesome. Proclaiming who God is and what He does.

I think I take away from today that God makes all things possible. I don't want to be a blip in a list of named where I am destroyed. That would suck. I want to continue to be in the word so that I can affect those around me in a positive way. I want to make sure I am reaching out to those I know who kind of either don't care or are against what Christianity is while not being affected negatively by them. I feel like I know more people who are kind of whatever about it then 100% zealously against it. Remember though everything is possible with Jesus. Its all about Jesus.

New Bible Reading Plan

I hope that the idea of being able to see my stats and what not will encourage me to read more. I like to see what I've done and where I am at. I plan on writing notes and posting on here and linking it to Facebook. I'll also post questions on things that I don't understand.

So today's reading plan is: Ecclesiastes 3:1-8, Genesis 1, 1 Chronicles 1, Luke 1:1-25

Ecclesiastes reminds me that God is in control and that there is a appropriate time and response to all things. It makes me think about my life and how God is still sovereign even when I disobey or do something stupid. There is a season for everything. I guess for me understanding what season I am in is important just to be aware of the direction i am being led. Right now I feel I am in a season of change. Things feel up in the air as plans I was hoping to walk in did not happen.(Which is good because they honestly were very selfish.) I feel this is a time of returning.

Genesis 1, I love the creation story. By God's word existence came. Everything God created and saw was good. Then when he was done with everything and finished making man and women he saw that it was very good. Its just awesome to think that by his voice, his words, things happen. There is power in the word of God. Its cool because when we think of God's promises, not only is he stating something but he is promising to fulfill it as well. Its kind of a faith booster to know that God is true and can not lie because he can not break or change his nature. "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever." Hebrews 13:8 "For all the promises God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us." 2 Corinthians 1:20

1 Chronicles: Honestly reading a genealogy is not the most entertaining part of the Bible for me but I know that every word in the Bible is useful for some reason. It says in 2 Timothy 3:16-17, All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work. NASB

So after reading this its funny to think that these are OUR ancestors. Everyone is related. We are all one big family. It brings to mind when Jesus said who is my brother? Mathew 12:48

Luke 1:1-25 So we've been doing Luke for years at my church. After reading this portion, I think 2 things stuck out to me. One was that Zacharias and his wife were both righteous, and were walking blameless by the commandments. That kind of hurts my mind. Its just weird for me to think that because there are not that many people walking this way. This is prior to Jesus paying it all on the cross. Thank God for the cross and Jesus paying for my sins because now my righteousness comes by faith and not having to follow rules.

The 2nd thing that caught my attention is when Zacharias ask the angel "How can I know for sure?" Because he ask that he is mute until everything the angel said happened. I know so many times in my life I will feel like I hear something but I am not 100% certain. Even though he lacked faith God still made sure that it happened and he muted him to increase his faith. How awesome is it that God builds our faith. It brings me back to what I read earlier when I think that God's promises are yes and amen, and that there is power in his word. I think today's reading taught me the power of God's word. To have faith in God due to his unchangeable character. I am praying for persistence in reading God's word and finding areas where I need to increase my Faith.

My prayer request: New job OR to be able to get back into school.

To have my heart softened again that I may have a heart again for people. Especially the ones I don't have much in common with.

To continue being Holy and resist all forms of temptations because their are a lot of them!

So I got on this late @ night because the computer was open and I needed to check out cup o joe for our Corinthians Study WHICH I AM SUPER EXCITED ABOUT! that was a good enough reason to go all caps there eh?

Wel I am going to read my bible spend time with jess and Eat Junk food so lata!
